Clocks Go Back | Make The Darker Nights More Enjoyable

Hi, Tonight here in the UK we're turning the clocks back by an hour. It's now going to be dark by 5pm and get eariler and eariler, this is both massively annoying as I hate driving in the dark and exciting as it means that it's now getting close to Christmas. There are so many celebrations at this time of year that would be so different if they where held at the height of summer. Halloween wouldn't be as scary and you'd be forced to wear your costume without the cover of darkness. Bonfire night would have to take place so late in the evening you'd be too sleepy to even watch the fireworks. One of the best parts about Christmas is all the fairy lights and decorative displays which wouldn't look half as good if it wasn't dark.

Today I'm sharing things I'm doing to make the most of the darker nights and not let it become an issue with my mood. It's a bit easier said than done when the weather is so wet and windy but I'm still seeing the beauty in this time of year when the seasons change, Autumn is my favourite time of year. While summer brings the opportunity to stay up till late soaking up the sunshine, Autumn also has it's benefits as a time of relaxation. I tend to slow down during the Autumn months before Winter properly kicks in with all the Christmas and new years parties. Below are some really simple ways to connect with these transitional months.

How To Make The Darker Nights More Enjoyable

Take Part In Seasonal Celebrations
As I mentioned above we've got Halloween and Bonfire night to look forward too. I feel these celebrations are a kind of consolation prize for the darker nights. Embrace these events where possible.

Get Cozy
When it's colder outside there's nothing nicer than getting all wrapped up in comfy warm clothing. It's time to dig out the fluffy socks and slippers and maybe invest in some big cozy jumpers or even another new set of pajamas. Change out the bedding for snugglier nights and don't forget your blanket.

Update Your Home/Room
Changing up a room to match the season is a good way to make the season more enjoyable. Update your colour scheme or just add more comforting elements like subtle lighting to keep the darkness at bay.

Bake or Buy Nice Snacks
Pumpkin spice is everywhere right now so why not try a new seasonal baking recipe.  Alternatively try out what the shops have to offer in the form of seasonal goodies. Using seasonal ingredients is a good way to embrace the new season.

Hot Drinks
One thing about the drop in temperature is that I now want every drink to be hot. I don't drink normal tea or coffee because I'm weird but hot chocolate is a must in Autumn, preferably after a long woodland walk.

Box Sets and Films
It's darker outside so the allure to go out is lower but that means more free time to catch up on those box sets you've been meaning to watch all summer or find a new favourite. Plan a trip to the cinemas it's already dark so you're not missing the sunshine by going to watch a film.

Stock Up On Bath Bombs
Take the time to have a relaxing bath, I always feel weird having a bath when it's sunny outside like the heat of the water is wrong. The drop in temperature means I'm more than happy to have a bath and it's even better when you get to enjoy some Lush bath art too.

Get Stuck into a Book
I'm so behind on my goodreads target this year so I'm really hoping the darker nights are going to give me a reason to chill out with a book more often. It might be dark and raining outside but in a book you could be traveling the world and enjoy someone else's summer if you're missing the sun.

Start a Craft Project
Extra time means working on those household DIY projects or you could start working on homemade Christmas gifts or start a craft project just for the fun of it.

What's your favourite part about the nights getting darker?

TAG | Sweater Weather

Hi, Over the weekend it has definitely become colder and we even got a little snow which left the top of the hills white. I have been wearing my jumpers and woolly items of clothing even more to try and keep the cold at bay. Today I decided to do the sweater weather tag due to my total lack of original ideas, which I'm hoping I'll put an end too very soon and be back with some more interesting content. In the mean time I hope you enjoy this post and maybe learn something new about me.

Sweater Weather Tag

1. Favorite candle scent?
Without a doubt my favourite candle scent would be cinnamon, which is more popular at this time of year. I recently picked up A maple and cinnamon jar candle from Primark and it smells so good.

2. Coffee, tea, or hot chocolate?
I don't like coffee, I drink green tea but my favourite drink of indulgence at this time of year is a hot chocolate.

3. What's the best fall memory you have?
Every year when I was a kid we'd go to Matlock Bath in Derbyshire to visit the illuminations and have a trip to Gulliver's world. I'd sum these trips up as delightfully tacky but they still fill me with happiness.

4. Which makeup trend do you prefer: dark lips or winged eyeliner?
I love the dark lip trend up I think the winged eyeliner is more wearable for me personally, I love both trends though.

5. Best fragrance for fall?
I'm not an expert when it comes to perfume but my all time favourite, which I think works really well at this time of year, is Marc Jacobs Lola.

6. Favorite Thanksgiving food?
As I'm British we don't have thanksgiving so I'm going to talk from a Sunday roast point of view and as I'm from Yorkshire I'm obviously going to pick Yorkshire puddings.

7. What is autumn weather like where you live?
At first it's dry and really beautiful as the leaves change colour and everything becomes different from summer but then later in the year it becomes colder and the weather generally gets a bit rubbish.

8. Most worn sweater?
I don't think I've got a most worn apart from maybe the one I'm wearing right now which is an over sized burgundy jumper I got in the sales last year. I try to wear different things so I'm making the most of my wardrobe but I think this one is winning on the colour front.

9. Must-have nail polish this fall?
I love a really dark berry tone or alternatively I love a black polish mixed with something really sparkly. I have the worst nails so I don't indulge in nail art nearly enough.

10. Football games or jumping in leaf piles?
I'm not sporty or interested in sports really, so I'd have to pick jumping in leaf piles as this sounds like fun.

11. Skinny jeans or leggings?
Skinny jeans because I live in them any way, being short I find they make my legs look longer. If I'm not in jeans I'm wearing the Primark super cozy tights with a skirt.

12. Combat boots or Uggs?
Combat boots because the are the most similar to Dr Martens which are my all time favourite foot wear.

13. Is pumpkin spice worth the hype?
I've never tried it so I can't really comment.

14. Favorite fall TV show?
I don't relate TV to a particular time of year and all I can think of are X factor and Strictly come dancing all of which do not interest me. I'll more likely be watch a series which has been going for years in a collection of massive binge sessions while hiding from the cold.

15. What songs really gets you into the fall spirit?
So maybe it doesn't get me in the fall spirit but from the bands I listen to the only song that comes to mind with any reference to the fall season is 'Billy Talent - Fallen Leaves' it's actually a rather depressing song.

I tag you, let me know if you do the tag and I'll come read your answers.

Why I Can't Wait For Autumn

Hi, It's September now so I think that means I can now talk about my favourite time of year Autumn, sorry to all the Summer lovers out there. The summer isn't technically over until the 23rd but where was the summer we were promised. At least with Autumn you know what you're getting as it's pretty predictable, the leaves start to change colour and there's still a warmth in the air, but it's the start of layering clothing and wearing hats to keep the chill away.

Things I'm Looking Forward To In Autumn

The Changing Season
The thing I love the most about autumn is the very obvious change in season. The nights start to get darker and the trees change colour, into the most amazing array of reds, oranges and yellows. It's my favourite time of year to go for a walk in the woods and admire nature.

Halloween and Bonfire Night
Not only do you have more of an excuse to just curl up with a hot chocolate and binge watch the latest it show, but autumn holds two of the most exciting events on the calendar, Halloween and Bonfire night. I feel just like a child again when these two seasonal events roll around, fancy dress and fireworks.

Woolly Everything
Jumpers, hats and scarves. I love the fashion possibilities that come with the Autumn season. I love an over sized jumper for an effortless outfit and woolly hats just tame my hair to keep it looking styled without the effort.

New Coats
I love buying a new coat or maybe more. Picking one based on a winter trend means you look stylish all A/W without trying. I like a coat that will really keep me warm and cozy.

Boots Are A Necessity
I can honestly say I have an addiction to Dr Martens boots. I love to wear them all year round but boots and hot days just don't mix. In Autumn boots become a must have item due to the build up of decomposing leaf litter and the odd autumn rain shower.

Indian Summer
I don't know about you but I always find that September always holds a little of the summer warmth. Enough that you can still wear pretty much anything you want, be it a dress or shorts with the added warmth of a pair of tights.

Dark Moody Colours
I love that when autumn comes around there is a distinct change in colour pallet for the new season. Colours become so much darker and moodier which totally agrees with my alternative side. I always love that high street shops release the odd Halloween inspired items.

The Build up to Christmas
With autumn comes the count down to Christmas. It annoys me that the count down seems to get earlier every year to boost sales but I can't help but get a little bit excited by the prospect that it isn't all that long away. Not wishing the year away or anything!

What is your favourite part of Autumn?
