Books I Want To Read In 2017

Hi, I wanted to share my Goodreads 'To Read List' which is pretty much what I would like to read this year but I'm open to change. My goal yet again is 35 as I only just manage to complete it again (December is always a blur), but I think it's still a worthy number to accomplish. Most of the books on my list are ones I cross referenced with my local library's inventory to see what I could go and read for free. I think it's really important to support your local library as more and more are being shut down because they are seen to be unused. Plus you can read loads of books and you don't have to feel guilty about your bank balance.

So there is my collection of books I'd really like to read this year or at some point in the future at least. This post isn't that helpful for what the books are actually about but I'd like to do some smaller TBR posts with synopsis when I choose what I'm reading at that time. Every book sounds really interesting to me and I can't wait to see which of these books leaves a lasting impression.

Christmas Book Suggestions | #BLOGMAS Day 15

Hi, Today I've got a selection of Christmas/Winter themed books to match your reading material with the time of year. My own opinion of Christmas books is that they're by default a little bit tacky unless done well. The seasonal setting of a story and reading at the same time of year make for a lovely reading experience and it brings a little extra atmosphere into the mundane. I've tried to pick a selection of different styles of writing to cover all tastes.

Christmas Book Suggestions

Let It Snow: Three Holiday Romances - John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle

A collaboration between three YA writers creating a winter themed intertwined love story. I've seen this book mentioned a lot over the past month as a great winter read. I'm interested to see how the writing style works with it been a mixture of authors and if this book is really worth the hype.

Harry Potter And The Philosophers Stone - J.K Rowling

One of my favourite things about the Harry Potter books is how magical they make Christmas seem and that's in a world where magic exists. I think the earliest books do Christmas best, Harry's first Christmas at Hogwarts is such a memorable experience and one which is so heart warming.

A Christmas Carol - Charles Dickens

This is surely one of the best known Christmas stories but one I've never read. I'd love to get into reading more classics but I'm a little scared of them. I think reading one where the story is so familiar would help me get over that fear.

Hogfather - Terry Pratchett

The Hogfather is the Discworlds version of Santa, this particular Christmas he's unable to deliver all the presents so he hires Death to help. The discworld novels are interesting because they are not of this world but then mimic it in so many interesting ways. I've not read this book but previous stories featuring death have been funny so I look forward to giving this one a go.

Spring TBR Wishlist

Hi, I've got to a point in the year where I'm not really sure what to read next. I decided to put together a collection of titles currently on my to be read list to remind myself of the books I'd like to read and share them with you. There is a bit of a theme within my choices that all the main characters are  female teenagers or younger.

 The Girl With All The Gifts

Author - M.R. Carey

My mum bought me this book for my birthday so I had no idea what it was about. After some research and review reading I've found it to be a new take on the Zombie idea which I'm super excited to read. I've been wanting something Zombie related to fill the void that is the walking dead. Melanie is a child zombie, she can learn and is affectionate towards others. Melanie is special but she's not alone, everyday she and her fellow classmates are tied into their chairs ready for class. I'm not really sure where the story goes but I'm excited to find out.

I've seen a few reviews by book bloggers about Seed and it sounded like a book I would enjoy. Pearl is a young girl living within a small community. She gets her first period, which means she is considered a woman and awaits becoming one of Papa S's many companions. Life goes on until one day a new family arrive, with them a young boy and answers to questions Pearl never thought to ask. This seems very much like a cult based story and the idea that you can manipulate people to believe your version of the truth. I'm very much look forward to reading this to see how truly dark it could get.

How Hard Can Love Be

I read Holly Bourne's work for the first time last year and loved her writing style, it's rare that I want to sit and read a book in one sitting and this book very nearly made me do just that. I reviewed 'Am I Normal Yet' last year, I was happy to find that this book is a continuation of the same group of friends Amber, Evie and Lottie. Where the previous story was about Evie this time it's Amber's turn to be in the spotlight.The subject for this story in comparison to Holly's previous story doesn't seem as gritty but I want to read it for her conversational writing style more than anything else.

 Asking For It

Author - Louise O'Neill

This is not a book for younger readers although it is of the young adult genre. The story is about a girl who wakes from a party with no memory of the previous night, she was raped and the story follows the aftermath. I reviewed Louise O'Neill's 'Only Ever Yours' last year and loved how hard hitting and thought provoking it was so I really want to see if I love this as much. I'm sure the subject matter will be a painful read but it's great to see harder subject matter being written about.
