Reasons to Smile

Hi, the other day I was walking along and was over come with a massive surge of happiness, the sun was shining, the sky was blue, I'd been shopping a found some shoes in Primark in my size and I was spending time alone and enjoying it. This post is a result of that day and a reminder that we should all find happiness in the smallest of everyday occurrence.

Reasons to smile
  • Walking under blossom trees as the petals fall
  • The Sun shining and blue sky
  • Wearing a dress
  • Primark having a size 3 in the shoes I like
  • Bank holiday weekend
  • Independence
  • Shopping
  • Getting to the bus stop as the bus arrives (no waiting)
  • Seeing friends
  • Good hair day
  • Feeling confident in my outfit
  • Stone baked Pizza

I'm sure there could have been more things I could add. Focus on the good things in life.

What has made you smile today?

Primark Wishlist

Hi, I was having a general look on the Primark website to see if there where any good buys I should keep a look out for and found the most amazing looking bikini set.

Bikini Top - £6.00 | Bikini Bottoms - £5.00 | Pewter Sandals - £12 | Sheer Kimono - £8.00

I doubt I will find it in store and if I do it would fit but I really like this bikini, it's something a little bit more interestingly tailored than anything else I own. As well as the bikini set there was this pair of pewter strapped sandals, anything pewter/silver is a winner with me and would brighten up an all black outfit. I also saw this sheer black kimono which I think would totally finish off this beach look.

Have you seen any of these items in store?

Christening Outfit

Last Sunday was the christening of my cousins little girl. As we where going to church I wanted to dress appropriately. As luck would have it Dorothy Perkins emailed me advertising their sale and on the email was the perfect dress. At only £11 it was a total bargain, I had to size up as Dorothy Perkins dresses never seem to give enough room for a larger bust, so it's a little lose at the waist but looks fine. It's a textured fabric which hides a multitude of sins and the pattern is really pretty and perfect for spring. The length comes to just below my knees, I never leave home without tights but with the length of this I felt more than comfortable in a pair of nude tights. I wore the dress with a pair of silver flats which I got in the Topshop sale a while ago and a white cotton kimono also from the Dorothy Perkins Sale.

Dorothy Perkins - £11.00

I know I'm going to get a lot of wear out of this dress, it's the perfect spring dress as the fabric is still thick enough to create warmth and the sleeves mean you don't have to wear a cover up until it get cooler. I normally buy shorter dresses as I feel they compliment my short figure but I feel really glamorous in this dress in comparison.

What would you wear to a Christening?

Weight Loss | Myfitnesspal App

Hi, I am by no means over weight but with summer around the corner I wanted to lose a few spare pounds still hanging around from Christmas. I've been calorie counting and taking walks when ever I can to help me do this. My plan is to lose about 7 pounds and to tone my stomach. To help me count calories I downloaded the myfitnesspal app, it's a real eye opener when it comes to hidden calories you don't even consider. You set your daily calorie goal, default is 1200 and keep track by scanning bar codes on product packaging or finding generic nutritional information.

I'm yet to see a difference because I haven't stuck to it 100% due to eating out and just being bad. Where possible I'm cooking from scratch with fresh ingredients, which gives you a lot more control of the calories in your food. I'm also being more selective of the foods I want to eat knowing that what I make has to fill me and be super tasty. There is nothing worse than eating salad after salad. I have cut my portion size but I don't feel hungry for it which I am rather shocked about, but its a pleasant surprise.

The app has made me reconsider what I thought was good portion control. I've cut the amount of rice or noodle I would eat and I'm still more than satisfied with my meal. I've also cut down the amount of bread I eat and am having it as a treat on the weekend to make a super yummy bacon butty. On that note I didn't have to cut stuff out of my diet completely, I just think more about the amount I eat than I did before.

I have no intention of keeping my calorie intake to only 1200 but I don't have a very active day job so in reality I do not think 2000 calories is a logical amount for me to consume on a daily basis, although very easy to do. So once I've lost my target amount of weight I'm planning on testing the amount of daily calories I should consume to maintain weight.

Although the weight loss is the main goal, I've enjoyed using the app as a means of education. We should all make more of an effort to not over consume for the good of the planet. I will never be a vegetarian but that doesn't stop me eating meat free meals for half the week, bean burgers are so nice. I'm currently trying to find a recipe I can adapt to make a low calorie pizza base.

Would you consider using an app to help lose weight?

Free Perfume | Katy Perry Killer Queen

Hi, I love a good freebie. I got this 100ml bottle of Katy Perry Killer Queen totally free by saving up my boots points to over £15 and waiting for a good offer, this is a really easy thing to do if your save your points and look for a good deal on a pricer item.

Collecting Points
I can honestly say I don't think I have ever used my Boots points, so they had accumulated to over £15. I don't really shop at Boots all that much either so if you wait for the right times to buy everyday products such as on triple points days and with bonus points vouchers, it is probably quite easy to accumulate a vast amount of points.

Looking for Deals
Over the Valentines/ Mother's Day period this 100ml bottle was on offer for £14.99 down from £38.50. Buying a pricier item when on sale means you get more value for your points. There's nothing better than walking out of a shop with almost £40 worth of product totally free.

What's the best thing you have traded your Boots points in for?

London and Wicked

On Wednesday I traveled down to London with my friend to see Wicked. In all honesty I had no idea what the show was about other than there was a witch in it. Wicked is set as a back story to the Wizard of Oz in a 'Maleficent' style where you get to know the back story for the original portrayal of the Wicked Witch of the West and it turns out she really wasn't that 'Wicked' after all.

I really enjoyed the show, the cast where really good and the set and costume designs where colourful and exciting, It's amazing how a few different backdrops can take the story to a totally different location in a matter of seconds. We decided to save money on a hotel by traveling to and from London in the same day via train (we bagged our tickets in advance for £26 return). We opted to see a matanay performance of the show at 2.30 in the afternoon to make this possible.

I think one of the most important things to do in preparation for traveling down to the other end of the country is to have a plan of what you want to do with your day. It's super easy for time to fly past just traveling around on the tube, so it's great to have an idea of the places you want to visit and do them in an order that requires as little over lapping of traveling as possible. Also don't plan to do too much, better to truly enjoy the few activities you do, than try and rush lots.

9.30am - We were awaiting our train in Leeds station, we had got all the long distance train required provisions for the trip including our lunch and a cheeky can of Kopparberg Mixed Fruit (They are 330ml so a super handy size for a naughty little drink). Eating on the train saved time finding food to consume once we arrived, plus it's something to do while traveling, as it's so boring.

12 Noon - We arrived in London and after topping up our Oyster Cards we headed straight to The Natural History Museum for a quick look around. We planned to go here as it wasn't that far to then travel to Victoria for the show.

2.30pm - The show started and we were taken to the World of Oz.

5.30pm - After the show we headed to Westminster, again not that far too travel, to do some sight seeing. I'd researched a boat bar near to the embankment tube station so we headed there on foot from Westminster for some time to chat about what we had just witnessed.

7.00pm - After enjoying a refreshing pint with a view of the houses of parliament and the London Eye we headed to Covent Garden for a bite to eat. We weren't 100% sure where we wanted to eat but we both knew we wanted to try somewhere that wasn't a chain that we can find locally. We decided to eat at Joe's Southern Kitchen & Bar after a quick scan of the menu. We opted for a sharer started of BBQ chicken wings, which I followed with a chicken burger with a topping of guacamole and jalapeno peppers and a side of fries, super yummy.

8.30pm - After food we headed back to Kings Cross station to wait for our train home and a last minuet shopping trip for needed water and sweeties for the journey.

9.45pm - We set off back to Leeds after a busy day. I had an amazing fun packed day and spent most of the journey home sleeping (I couldn't help it).

What would you recommend be my next London show experience?
