Monthly Highlights | August

Hi, I know it's over said but wow this month has gone so fast. I can't believe just how fast this year is whizzing by. It's been a rather uneventful month but I felt busy without been over faced with stuff to do. The weather finally seemed to pick up and the rain has been more tropical rather than wintry. We had a lovely weekend of Summer sunshine which I have made the most of with a BBQ and reading in the garden, which was one of the highlights of the month.

Yay! I made it to the end of the month and managed to post every other day. It's been a busy month for blogging and I think I might have to slow down the pace so I don't burn out but I'm so proud of myself for keeping this place so active.

I went to a games night and played a star wars game named X-wing, it was pretty interesting and not really a conventional board game but it counts. I had a little shopping trip with my sister way back at the beginning of the month, where I didn't really pick anything up but it was nice to get a vibe of the trends on the high street. I baked some scones as they are so simple and I really fancied some jam.

I failed on the photo prompts but I'm going to take this forward into next month and try again. I also didn't get my hair cut which is so naughty, it needs cutting so badly so it will be happening asap. I didn't spend enough time outdoors either but with autumn on it's way I will be spending more time in the outdoors as this is my favourite time for getting out and enjoying nature.

I've now got the whole week off work and I'm so looking forward to doing loads of reading and getting on top of my blog posts before my little holiday to the east coast (Seaside here I come!!!). Elephants, I love that they are so family oriented and really cute (did you heard about the baby at chester zoo, I need to go).

2. If you were going to adopt a new lady cat, what would you name her? 

I like the idea of gemstones as names like Ruby or something celestial like Luna.

3. When is the last time you busted a sneaky dance move when no one was watching?

In order for the move to be sneaky I'd have to say I was at work. I dance around my room like a fool all the time.

Lithium, because I enjoy saying it.

Anything by Kesha, I know a lot of people aren't a fan but I can't help enjoying her music.

Back to the future, I love this film so much.

The response I get to my posts, every comment I get makes me smile, I love that people are reading and enjoying my blog.

I'd have to say my post about visiting the Yorkshire Wildlife Park because seeing my photos of the animals reminds me of what a great day it was and how much I enjoy seeing animals.

All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr | #SassyBooks August

Hi, This is my second month taking part in the #sassybooks book club. If you are unaware of the book club it was set up by lovely Charlotte at Colours and Carousels and Hayley at Water Painted Dreams (go check out their blogs, promise it's worth it). This month we read 'All The Light We Cannot See' by Anthony Doerr. I'll be honest when I saw the size of the book I was a little worried that I wouldn't read it in time for the review, thankfully I finished it with a little time to spare. This is a book I would not have read if it wasn't for the book club, so it made a nice change to read a book from a different genre.

All The Light We Cannot See

The story is told from multiple points of view, but mainly the two characters Marie-Laure and Werner, with some other character filling in major plot points. The story is set in the second world war when the Nazi troops invaded Paris. Marie-Laure is a young girl of twelve when the invasion hits and is forced to flee with her father to Saint-Malo where her Uncle lives. There are elements that make this even harder than imaginable. Firstly Marie-Laure has been blind since the age of six, turning her neighborhood into a maze. Secondly her father has been tasked with carrying an artifact from the Museum of Natural History where he works. His mission is to keep it safe, only he does not know if it is real or fake.

Werner is a German orphan, his father died working in the local mine. He lives with his sister Jutta at a orphanage awaiting the age of sixteen when he will be put to work in the same mine that took his fathers life, he finds the idea suffocating. Werner is a smart and inquisitive child, he finds a broken radio and fixes it, this is without a doubt the catalyst for his whole life. He joins the Hitler youth, which is his only chance of becoming a scientist and becomes a radio expert in the German army.

From reading the blurb I really wanted to get stuck in and see how these characters lives where interwoven when they lived so far apart. This was my favourite aspect of the story, finding out all the little bits of information that linking them together without their knowing until they finally meet in Saint-Malo.

The book although based in history is very much fictional, only using the events of the war as a back drop for the story to unfold. The story is more about the horrors of war from the general public's point of view, this includes people on both sides of the war and how first perceptions of a character based on their origin can be totally wrong, being a German during the war does not make you a bad person.

I found this book hard to read at times due the the amount of German/French words thrown in but it did not detract from the reading experience. The book is really well written and very descriptive, enhanced by the personal view of the world for Marie-Laure. I felt the book slowed in pace towards the middle and then everything happened in the last few chapters tying up as many loose ends as possible. I felt the time line in the book was confusing, it jumps around a lot, the starting chapter actually happens right towards the end of the story. Overall I really enjoyed the story as there where many layers to what was happening, which kept the story interesting even at it's slowest points.

Reasons Why I Won't Miss Summer

Hi, Hope you're all having a lovely weekend. I don't hate the summer but there are a few elements which I am quite happy to say goodbye to until next year. My favourite season is autumn and I'm very much looking forward to the seasonal change around the corner. I've put together a little list of reasons why I'm happy to say goodbye to the summer. After all this year has been such a let down in general I don't even feel like we've had a summer anyway. Although I am grateful for the odd day of pure sunshiny warmth Britain has been blessed with (like today, although storms are forecast later).

Reasons Why I Won't Miss Summer

It's Too Hot to Sleep
I love my sleep so when I can't sleep it messes me up for the following day. I hate the whole process of been too hot then too cold and constant fighting with blankets and the open air to get comfortable.

Inappropriate Summer Clothes
I do it every year, I get caught up in the summer styles knowing dam well I won't be going abroad and the British weather won't be hot enough to wear them without feeling cold. It's such a waste of money and space. These are items I'll wear once at best, I must stop it.

You Must Be Out Enjoying Summer
This is self inflicted as I feel like it's the time of year to be going places and seeing things but I'm really bad for just wanting to chill at home on the weekends. I know I should really be out enjoying the little bit of sun we get.

Unpredictable Weather
It's really hard to plan around the weather because it's always changing. Organize a BBQ and you can bet it will rain. Stay at home with nothing to do and it will be the nicest day of the year and you'll be gutted you're not at the beach.

Sweat
Not that this happens all that often as it doesn't really get hot enough, but Britain been Britain you can bet one of the hottest days will have started off a bit naff and so you get caught out wearing one of your warmer outfits. Been sticky/damp with makeup sliding down your face is never nice.

Why I Started Blogging | 100 Followers

Hi, Something amazing happened the other day, I reached 100 followers on Bloglovin! I know it's not a numbers game but I'm super happy that 100 of you lovely people out there in the world have found my little piece of the internet and deemed it worthy of your time. I hope I can continue to produce content you find both interesting and informative and that you will stick around and help me grow Momentarily Dreaming further.

Why I Started Blogging

If I'm honest I would say I purely started blogging as something to do on my Sundays as my boyfriend is at work and I had some spare time as a result. I was in need of a hobby and love looking at blogs myself so I figured I would give it a go.

Before I started blogging I viewed blogs but was too afraid to post a comment. When I first hit publish on my first post way back in November I was worried about what people would think and didn't feel ready to push myself to create content. I didn't join Bloglovin and start to notice the attention my blog gained until May this year over six months after I published my first post. Since then I have had over 1600 page views and a lot of positive comments on my posts. Not to mention the 100 followers I have gained in just 4 months which is mind blowing, to me anyway.

Blogging is hard work (especially when you work a 40 hour week) but at the end of the day you should only be doing it if you really love it. So far since May when I started to dedicate my time I have loved every minute. I don't know what was in my head space before I started to think like a blogger, but I can feel a creative buzz now. I would consider myself quite shy but blogging is pushing me to open up and not worry about what people will say/think. Having a platform for creative writing and sharing ideas openly is such a nice thing to have.
