Lush Review | Northern Lights Bath Bomb

Hi, Today I've got a little review of the Northern Lights bath bomb which was one of many Lush products I received for Christmas. This product was part of the Christmas range so is no longer available but I still wanted to share my opinion. Northern Lights was re-released with a new look design after it's much longer and thinner original was prone to breaking and as such ruining the visual effect of this bath bomb.

Northern Lights Bath Bomb

The bath bomb contains a mixture of Jasmine Absolute and Ylang Ylang Oil which made the water really silky and smelt great. Each end of the bath bomb is filled with either blue or yellow which work to create a firework display in the bath water. Design wise this is a really interesting bath bomb, it acts in a totally different way to normal designs twisting and creating spirels of colour.

My biggest issue with this bath bomb was once all the lovely coloured foam dispersed you're left with this weird green/red water which just wasn't that nice to look at. I'd like this bath bomb more if it had a surprise inside like some stars or a little bit of glitter, it would have just finished it off. I enjoyed the visual effect of the bath bomb but that's about all, it's not one I'll rush to try again.

Lush Review - Luxury Lush Pud | #BLOGMAS Day 17

Hi, I'm back with my last Christmas Lush review for the Luxury Lush Pud. It's one of the first ever Lush products I tried, I received it in a gift box one Christmas many years ago. It's a bomb I normally overlook for the new releases but this year I decided I wanted to use a classic.

Luxury Lush Pud Bath Bomb – A Recipe For Unwinding

It is a mainly pink bath bomb with a white frosting inspired top decorated with holly, the rest is decorated with brightly coloured dots which give this bath bomb a very fun look. The four main ingredient in the bath bomb are Lavender oil, Benzoin Resinoid, Tonka Absolute and Ylang Ylang Oil. It is designed to smell irresistibly tasty just like the real thing and works to create a calming sensation to help you drift off to sleep, a perfect choice for Christmas Eve.

This bath bomb in the water is a kaleidoscope of colour. The main part of the bath bomb fizzes away turning the water a subtle shade of pink, while the dots drift off to create patterns of colour. I believe there was the slightest touch of luster in this bath bomb as my water was sparkling. The scent of this product didn't stand up to being diluted in the water which was a shame. Overall I think this is a fun bath bomb and a pretty one to watch but it's not one of my favourites.

Lush Review - Mistletoe Bath Bomb | #BLOGMAS Day 10

Hi, Today I'm reviewing the Mistletoe bath bomb. I'm not sure if Mistletoe is new but when I saw it I was intrigued enough to want to try it. During my visit to Lush there where so many amazing looking products in the Christmas range, it was so hard to 1. not spend all my money and 2. get to the products because it was so darn busy. Mistletoe is the second bath bomb from the Christmas range I've tried this year, the previous bath bomb was Shoot for The Stars.

Mistletoe Bath Bomb – It's In The Air

The mixture of vivid pink and green where what drew me to this bath bomb. The embossed pattern of mistletoe is so sweet and subtly festive. I didn't really understand the design of this bath bomb until I read the name. Created with a mixture of Jasmine Absolute, Vetivert Oil and Ylang Ylang Oil, this bomb is very floral and is designed to create a romantic fairy tale at bath time.

As with most Lush bath bombs there's a colour change surprise inside with the appearance of blue pigment, but I don't think it really added anything. The bath water turns a lovely shade of deep pink which compliments the theme of this product. I enjoyed this bath bomb but I don't think it has the wow factor like some other products.

True to it's design this bomb smells strongly floral, it made a nice change from all the sickly sweet scents at this time of year. I don't normally notice the scent lasting long after my bath but this one left me smelling fresh for hours. So overall I liked this bath bomb but I'm not in a hurry to pick up another one.

7 Gift Ideas That Give Back | #BLOGMAS Day 6

Hi, Today I wanted to talk about gifts but more importantly gifts that give back in one way or another. I think it's important at this time of year when commercialization is so strong to take a step back and take a look at the planet that we owe our existence too (wow that got deep). Okay back to the light hearted festivities, I've got a selection of gifts that are a great way to take care of our planet and the people we share it with.

Gift Ideas That Give Back

Reusable Coffee Cups/Water Bottles
I can't quote numbers but as a planet we use a crazy mind boggling amount of paper cups and plastic bottles, most of which end up in land fill. Our planet for the moment is plentiful but what happens when these common materials become harder to source. It might not happen in our life time but I'd like to not be known as the generation of wastefulness.

Tote Bags
This is also helpful on the wallet as in the UK plastic bags are now chargeable to try to stop so much plastic ending up on our beaches (I'm sure I heard a report that said it has already made a positive difference). Tote bags are really useful and something everyone should have handy.

Buy Ethical/Cruelty Free
Being aware of where products come from and how they are produced is really important. I choose to go cruelty free this year and it's made me aware of how little some companies care about welfare. There are great brands like Lush and Body Shop who go out of there way to fund raise, create awareness for issues and supply products made with fair trade ingredients which are cruelty free.

DIY
Gifts that are made hold more value, by reusing materials you already have you can make things that are gift worthy at very little cost to both yourself and the environment. The humble loo roll is used in lots of DIY's this time of year, Pinterest is the best place to check for inspiration!

Second Hand/Recycled
Sometimes the perfect gift doesn't need to be brand new. It's great for the environment if you're not buying stock that's mass produced in lots of packaging. A gift doesn't need to be new, books are a great example of recyclable gifts and you can probably get more for your money.

A Donation
Okay not so glamorous but a lot of people I know ask for a donation to be made on their behalf as a Christmas gift. Charities are quite happy to promote themselves at this time of year by also offering a welcome gift to a donation program so you'll also get a gift to wrap (I'm thinking the World Wide Fund for Nature on this one, so many cuddly animals).

An Anonymous Gift
Linking back to my #ReverseAdvent post you can give an anonymous gift of food to someone in need this Christmas. There are also Charities asking for Gifts for Children at Christmas time, do some research into your local charities if this is something you'd like to do.

Beauty Review | The Body Shop Coconut Range

Hi, Today I wanted to share a little beauty review with you. I'm talking about the coconut range of products from the Body Shop.

To start with I wanted to round off the collection with the scent. Coconut is one of my favourite scents for bath/body products and is such a versatile scent complementing any time of year. I have four products from the range to review. The body products contain community Fair Trade virgin organic coconut oil and the spray contains fair trade sugarcane essence.

Body Butter | 200ml - £14.00

The Body Shop body butters are some of the best on the market, they are super moisturizing with a really thick consistency, which sinks into the skin really quickly and leaves it super soft and smelling of coconut for a reasonable amount of time.

Body Scrub | 200ml - £13.00

I love an exfoliating scrub, and this is a really good one. I'm trying to remove all products that use micro beads from my routine and this is a great alternative. The exfoliating material is coconut husks and ground coconut shells.

Shower Cream | 250ml - £4.00

The coconut range has a cream rather than gel but it's essentially the same thing. I use a bath lily to lather up the cream and tiny bit goes a long way and a bottle can easily last me a couple of months. It smells lovely as do all the products from this range.

Body Mist | 100ml - £7.50

I like to use this product as a room mist for a light and fresh boost to the room. The staying power of the scent isn't amazing but it is a lovely product to apply in the morning for an invigorating boost.

Some of the Body Shop products are a little pricey but you get what you pay for. They are a cruelty free British brand and source as many ingredients as possible from fair trade organizations. The Body Shop are great for promotions and special offers so it's very unlikely you'll pay full price anyway.
